The Workshop on Research and Education in Control and Signal Processing, REDISCOVER 2004, will take place on June 14-16, 2004 in Hotel Croatia, Cavtat (near Dubrovnik), Croatia. The workshop participants from the USA, Japan, and the European Community will have the opportunity to meet - some for the first time - their counterparts from the Southeastern European countries, and discuss the mutual research and education benefits and opportunities. As such, the purposes of the Workshop are to help expand mutual understanding and cross-fertilization of ideas, as well as to initiate further collaboration among the participants. It has been recognized that the academic community is international, and a strong force for advancing international understanding. As the educational quality in Southeastern Europe is comparable to that of the European Community, Japan, and the USA, people from the four areas may engage in mutual student and faculty exchanges. Such exchanges will be beneficial to students and researchers in the USA, Japan, and in the European Community by providing opportunities for unique experiences in the Southeastern Europe where the economies are growing. Some participants, who have already established contacts in the area will be active in the preparation of this Workshop. The Workshop is sponsored by the NSF (US) and Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) of Japan. The event is partly supported through the EC funded project COLUMBUS. The workshop is also sponsored by University of Zagreb - Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing, IEEE Croatia Section and IEEE Joint Croatia Chapter of CSS and Robotics & Automation. The objectives of the Workshop may be summarized as follows: 1. Explore research opportunities in the Control Systems
and Signal Processing areas and begin preparation for collaborative research.
The Workshop encourages active participation by educators, researchers and graduate students at technical universities in Southeastern Europe. Publication and Dissemination of the Results of the Workshop to Technical Community A workshop preprint will be produced and selected papers
and the workshop summary will be suitably packaged and offered for publication
to a representative control journal. Candidate journals include:
